Math and Chess workbooks help child diagnosed with ADHD, ADD or dyslexia

Frank Ho

Founder of Ho Math and Chess

www.mathandchess.com

Chess has been known to be an useful tool in raising math marks and problem-solving skills.

At Ho Math and Chess, we have created a very unique and scientific proven teaching method that is to teach math and chess at the same time by using a truly math and chess integrated workbooks.

This set of workbooks is to raise children’s math ability by taking the boredom out of doing repetitive math drills and also foster a fun yet educational environment. Children learn best while having fun. This is an incredible chess workbook for children.

Our own anecdotal evidence suggests that our unique math and chess integrated workbooks can be an effective teaching method in helping child diagnosed with ADHD or ADD or child with learning difficulties such as dyslexia. The results are most significant when the child is placed in an education environment of one-on-one tutoring.

Many findings have supported that pupils who find it hard to maintain concentration on a single activity are able to improve this focus on playing chess.

Ho Math and Chess has invented a series of workbooks which truly combines math and chess and a child can learn math using chess knowledge on a variety of puzzle-like problems. These type of problems includes visual image (not just pure numbers), chess symbols, abstract chess values and chess directions and all these are stimuli to kids and keep their interests high while working on computational problems. This also gives children ample opportunities to think visually. Most of the time, the computational questions themselves are not written for children to work on immediately but for children to “create” themselves and these questions have to be actually “hunted” by following directions and chidren love the hunt (puzzles).

Ho Math and Chess workbooks magically keep children’s attention span longer than a typical math workbook could. Children become more engaged and focused when working on math and chess integrated workbooks than on traditional computation workbooks.

By providing math and chess truly integrated workbooks, Ho Math and Chess allows children playing chess while working on math in a fun and also educational setting. The end results are children get to strengthen their working memory and improve their problem solving ability. Doing something children like, they are able to concentrate and improve their ability to focus and allow themselves to immerse in the activity longer.

Ho Math and Chess truly integrated workbooks may be just one of the very effective teaching model for a child with problems of ADHD, ADD, or dyslexia.

Amanda is a very experienced math teacher with B.Sc degree. Her specialty is in teaching math and chess integrated teaching as well as the integrated teaching of science and math.

What is ADHD

King Arthur | Articles from the Web | Saturday, June 13th, 2009

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder: What Is ADHD?
Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is also known as hyperactivity or attention deficit disorder (ADD). ADHD is a common condition that affects both children and adults.
Children with ADHD generally have problems paying attention or concentrating. They can’t seem to follow directions and are easily bored or frustrated with tasks. They also tend to move constantly and are impulsive, not stopping to think before they act. These behaviors are generally common in children. But they occur more often than usual and are more severe in a child with ADHD.
The behaviors that are common with ADHD interfere with a child’s ability to function at school and at home.
What are ADHD symptoms in children?
Symptoms of ADHD in children are generally grouped into three categories: inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsiveness.
Inattention — A child with ADHD:
is easily distracted
does not follow directions or finish tasks
does not appear to be listening when someone is speaking
does not pay attention and makes careless mistakes
is forgetful about daily activities
has problems organizing daily tasks
avoids or dislikes activities that require sitting still or a sustained effort
often loses things, including personal items
has a tendency to daydream
Hyperactivity — A child with ADHD:
often squirms, fidgets, or bounces when sitting
does not stay seated as expected
has difficulty playing quietly
is always moving, such as running or climbing on things (In teens and adults, this is more commonly described as a sense of restlessness)
talks excessively
Impulsivity — A child with ADHD:
has difficulty waiting for his or her turn
blurts out answers before the question has been completed
often interrupts others
Whether or not your child has been diagnosed with ADHD, there are a number of ways you can help to manage their behaviors:
Understand the symptoms of ADHD to try to avoid punishing your child for having ADHD. Predetermine how you will react in situations to avoid overreacting and then dismissing a punishment. Be as consistent as possible.
When giving directions or instructions, keep them simple. Keep them to one instruction at a possible and give directions in one sentence. Children with ADHD are often forgetful. Rather than becoming frustrated, let your child complete one part of the instruction at a time, then give another.
Keep eye contact with your child. If necessary, gently hold their chin so that they are looking at you when you speak. Children tend to listen more closely when they are looking at you as you speak.
Structure your day as much as possible. Keep nap times, meal times and dinner times at the same time each day. Having the day predictable for the child will help them cope better. Let them know any disruptions that may happen and what to expect. Let them know what you expect of the
them plenty of time to release energy. Set up times during the day for them to run or release energy. Make daily trips to the playground or play outside. If stuck in the house, use a radio or CD and have them dance.
Choose toys carefully. Children with ADHD can be emotionally immature. Allow toys that will benefit them developmentally and also provide toys to stretch their intelligence. (Children with ADHD do not have a lower intelligence level.)
Integrate learning techniques. Use as many as the senses as possible when teaching a new skill. If you are teaching your child colors find items they can touch, eat, or smell. Have them draw with crayons. Having learning become interactive will help them learn more quickly.
Create an environment to help them succeed. Accept they may be accident prone and put away items you don’t want broken. Use simple organizational structures they can use to put away toys. Use pictures on drawers to help them know what is inside.
Choose behavioral management techniques that are immediate. A child will have a hard time relating a consequence to an action if they do not happen simultaneously. Make rewards immediate as well. Give praise often when your child behaves correctly.
difficult for your child. If they will need to sit for extended periods, bring along small activities, drinks and snacks to keep them occupied. If you are going to be in a high stimulus area, be prepared to remove your child for a few minutes to help them calm down and then return to the activity.
For things your child must remember, use rhymes or songs. Have them help you make up the rhymes and songs to make this even more successful. (This works well for learning to spell their name or remember their phone number.)
Find what your child does well. If they are creative (and many children with ADHD are) supply items that will encourage their talents.
Be consistent. Consistency is the most important part of behavioral management when working with children with ADHD. The more consistent you are, the more they will know exactly what to expect and be able to follow your rules.

ADD – ADHD Disorder – 3 Action Points For Parents

King Arthur | Articles from the Web | Tuesday, June 9th, 2009

“When they’re adults I want my kids to say ‘mum worked so hard, but she was always there for us. Number one priority for me? My kids. They come first.” Britney Spears speaking on her US tour as she is accompanied by her two children Sean Preston (3) and Jayden James(2). What has this got to do with ADD ADHD disorder? A lot. Time is of the essence and the more time we spend with our kids, the better. That is so important and especially if ADHD is a challenge in your family.

Look at the shocking figures from the UK where Young Poll conducted a survey among 3,000 adults and children on the occasion of National Family Week which is trying to encourage families to spend more time together. The figures tell us that the average family only spends 45 minutes together each day and that is usually for eating but little else. Everybody is busy and everybody is in their own room with a TV and a computer, and the family hardly exists.

My first action pointfor parents whether they are coming to terms with ADD and ADHD disorders or not, is to spend more time with your kids. This survey found that some time was spent together shopping at the malls so I would replace that with green time and exercise. Everybody will be in a better mood!

If a child has an ADD ADHD disorder, his day is like living inside a video game where all the action, sensations, sounds and movement is coming at him all at once and he cannot give his attention to any one of these nor can he prioritise which are the important ones which will enable him to perform a certain task, or get his homework done.

My second action point is to play games with your ADHD child so that he can improve his concentration. This fits in nicely with the first action point as you want to do make the time you spend with your child quality time in every sense of the word. What are these cognitive type games? There are memory and concentration games, puzzles, the coin game, relaxation imagery games and so on. They can be found in the behavior program link towards the end of the article. The program is called ‘Total Focus’.

ADD and ADHD disorders are widely treated with medication . These are mind altering drugs. Several independent studies have shown that the amount of information about the risks, side effects and long term implications for these drugs on our children’s health are just not getting through to the public.

My third action point for parents if confronted with an ADD ADHD disorder, is to find out as much as you can about these medications and look at alternatives such as homeopathy. I know of parents who have had endless problems with getting the kids up early so that they have to take the medicine (usually an amphetamine type drug, an anti-depressant or a blood pressure drug!) so that it will kick in by the time they start class. No to mention problems with insomnia, loss of appetite, irritability and mood swings. One or several of these could change your life for the worst . By opting for a homeopathic remedy to alleviate ADHD symptoms ,you can be safe in the knowledge that there are no side effects, risks or danger of addiction. This is one of the safest ways of treating an ADD ADHD disorder together with an ADHD behavioral therapy program, but your doctor will probably disagree.

Fast Track Facts On Side Effects Of ADHD Medications

King Arthur | Articles from the Web | Tuesday, June 9th, 2009

I know a boy who was on several ADHD drugs for many years and he told me that he wished he had never taken them. This boy then went off the drugs because he was getting pretty bad migraines and nervous tics. He still had some of the ADHD classic symptoms such as hyperactivity and impulsiveness and felt that he had got himself back. But the ADHD medication side effects had robbed him of a happy adolescence.

Look at the warning labels on any of the well known ADHD drugs such as Adderall, Cylert, Ritalin and Vyvanse and you are most likely to be confronted with warnings about cardiac arrest, psychotic events, psychiatric problems and so on. There may be other warnings on the information sheet that might include loss of appetite, restlessness, irritability, mood swings, insomnia and hallucinations. It is true that any medication is going to have a long list of side effects but the ones caused by ADHD medications seem to be more alarming than most, especially as we are dealing with children’s brains that are developing and will go on developing until they are about 25!

The short term side effects of ADHD medication are listed but what about the long term effects? There is very little data about this which is quite alarming. We know from the warning boxes on these medicines that there could be long term effects on the developing brain but that is as far they go. They will not reveal what these effects are which I find appalling. Just think that Ritalin has been on the market for over forty years and we still do not know what the long term effects are !

Many parents are not really concerned though about ADHD medication side effects and they want a quiet life. They dedicate all their attention to trying to minimize the side effects of these drugs at home instead of thinking of the real behavior problems which the drugs are not going to resolve anyway! They are in for a rude awakening. They make sure that the tablets are given with food so that stomach aches and headaches can be avoided. They have to jump all sorts of hoops to make sure that healthy snacks are provided because of the side effects on appetite. Then they have to invent routines for going to bed to get over the awful insomnia problem. It just goes on and on !

Now if parents were to consider (without any bias) a homeopathic remedy for ADHD, they would learn quite a few things which they did not know about. The effects of these remedies , if combined with ADHD behavioral therapy, are just as effective as ADHD meds and there are no side effects and the health risks are non-existent. Choosing a remedy like this saves you loads of time which you can spend with your child and you need never worry about the awful side effects of ADHD medications which are so alarming.

Why Schools Want Children Medicated

King Arthur | Articles from the Web | Monday, June 8th, 2009

In the city of Kansas City, MIssouri, an unholy alliance exists between one reading teacher  at Troost Elementary  by the name of  Williams, and the Missouri Department of Social Services, one Jason Campbell to be exact.
Mr. Campbell, and Ms. Williams have joined together, to remove children from loving homes, and have them placed on medication.  These children are removed from their homes, they are placed with specific case-workers.  These children are placed in specific homes, where they are “broken down”,  This basically amounts to brainwashing, and beatings.  They are isolated from their siblings, not allowed to see their families, or even talk to their families.
The school district and the state has turned a deaf ear on this issue.

between 1990 and 2000 there were 186 deaths from methylphenidate to the fda medwatch program, this is about 10 to 20 percent of actual incidence.
state and federal government has been told numerous times about the methods used in the miss-diagnosing of thousands of children with ADD-Attention Deficit Disorder and ADHD Attention hyperactivity disorder and psychotropic drugging of children with ritalin and other drugs.
Schools across the country are threatening parent with loosing their children if they don’t put them on medication for adhd.
In the Kansas City , Missouri school district, there is a partnership between the department of social services and schools, to remove children from homes, and place them in foster care, for the sole purpose of placing them on medication.
*Here are some facts that are being withheld from parents that could possibly alter their life decisions and outcomes.

Schools receive additional money from state and federal government for every child labeled and drugged? This clearly demonstrates a possible “financial incentive” for schools to label and drug children. It also backs up the alarming rise/increase in the labeling and drugging that has taken place in the last decade within our schools.

Parents receiving welfare money from the government can get additional funds for every child that they have labeled and drugged? In this way, many lower socio-economic parents (many times single mothers) are reeled into the drugging by these financial incentives waved in front of them in hard times, making lifestyle changes possible.
By labeling your child with ADHD, you are actually labeling them with a mental illness listed in the DSM-IV, the unscientific billing bible for psychiatry?
Did you know that a child taking a psycho-tropic, psycho-stimulant drugs like Ritalin after the age of 12 is ineligible for military service?

The subjective checklists that are being used as criteria for diagnosis are very similar to the checklists used to determine Gifted and Talented Children? These two checklists are almost identical.

The Drug Enforcement Administration clearly states in their report on Methylphenidate: “However, contrary to popular belief, stimulants like methylphenidate will affect normal children and adults in the same manner that they affect ADHD children. Behavioral or attentional improvements with methylphenidate treatment therefore is not diagnostic of ADHD.”  This statement thoroughly contradicts what is being told to many parents by the many “professionals” that have a vested stake in the diagnosis itself.

The DEA further states that: “Of particular concern is that most of the ADHD literature prepared for public consumption by CHADD and other groups and available to parents, does not address the abuse potential or actual abuse of methylphenidate. Instead, methylphenidate (usually referred to as Ritalin by these groups) is routinely portrayed as a benign, mild substance that is not associated with abuse or serious side effects. In reality, however, there is an abundance of scientific literature which indicates that methylphenidate shares the same abuse potential as other Schedule II stimulants.”

Did you know that groups like CHADD and others available to parents are being supported financially by pharmaceutical companies? This is a red flag and demonstrates a conflict of interest in the role that these groups have regarding our children’s health and well-being.

Did you know that there are studies such as the Berkeley Study that contends that Ritalin and other stimulants further raise the risk of drug abuse? From the Wall Street Journal, Monday, May 17, 1999 by Marilyn Chase: “Nadine Lambert, a professor of education, followed almost 500 children for 26 years. She argues that exposure to Ritalin makes the brain more susceptible to the addictive power of cocaine and doubles the risk of abuse.”

This study seems to never make it into the hands of parents because it doesn’t support the theories of those using the diagnosis to profit off of our children. What does seem to make it into many parents’ hands is research indicating that if children go “untreated”, which corresponds with “unmedicated” they will “self-medicate” or end up as juvenile delinquents. Sadly many of these parents are not aware that many of this biased and unproven research (one such is the Beiderman study) infiltrating our schools are actually being distributed by pharmaceutical companies, such as Novartis. This in itself is another red flag and conflict of interest surrounding our children’s health.

4 Things You Must Know About ADHD Medicine Long Term Effects

King Arthur | Articles from the Web | Sunday, June 7th, 2009

We are going through a sort of emergency health crisis as regards the over prescription of ADHD meds without knowing or caring too much about ADHD medicine long term effects. A big problem is the mindset of parents, teachers and doctors who all want a quick fix to behavior problems in children and all the better if it has the ADHD label. It is trendy and it can explain a host of symptoms. Unfortunately the teacher has a mindset where he or she wants to keep the class under control. The doctor is rushed off his feet and may stand to gain by prescribing these ADHD meds. The parent also wants a quick fix and drugs seem the easiest option.

But when we look at ADHD medicine long term effects, the picture begins to darken and there are some worrying thoughts to plague our dreams and uneasy sleep. The first thing we need to keep to the forefront is that, if we cannot come to terms with behavior problems by learning a few techniques from behavior modification, then there is not much hope, quite frankly. The ADHD medicines will solve some of the immediate problems such as reducing hyperactivity, help to improve attention span and maybe aid concentration and focus but the ADHD medication long term effects will be brushed under the carpet.

So, what are the other things we need to know about ADHD medicine long term effects? The second one is that we live in a corrupt world (as if we didn’t know!). That means that pharmaceutical companies, doctors, consultants and politicians have conspired for the sake of their own business interests, to influence clinical trials so that results are what they want and expect. Simply put, we are not getting nearly enough reliable and honest information about ADHD medication long term effects. There is simply a lack of data. Thank goodness there are organizations like Transparency International who are dedicated to fighting this sort of corruption, especially in cases for example where ADHD medication long term effects are ‘censored’ to gain money !

The third thing we need to know is that Ritalin has one alarming side effect which has received hardly any attention at all in the medical press – see my second point above. This is that Ritalin can increase anxiety, depression and increases the desire in some children to inflict injury on themselves.

The fourth thing to be aware of about ADHD medicine long term effects is that there are risks associated with taking these drugs and getting involved in drug abuse. Children will be asked to sell their drugs at school. At college, these drugs are sought (Adderall is astonishingly popular) as smart drugs to help students get through college exams. ADHD kids may be socially ostracized which further increases their chances of getting in on the drugs scene , not to mention the fact that the company making these drugs do happen to mention that there is a risk of substance abuse!

It is clear that parents are only getting a very blurred picture. Are these the risks you want your child to take? Have you considered a homeopathic remedy together with some ADHD behavioral therapy which will help you to get back in control again? The homeopathic remedies have no side effects or health risks at all.

ADD & ADHD Alternatives – What Options Are Available ?

King Arthur | Articles from the Web | Sunday, June 7th, 2009

Why did Health Canada ban Adderall XR ? Because there had been 12 strokes in children and also between 20 and 30 heart attacks and sudden deaths. Why did the WHO, over ten years ago, warn that Ritalin was being overprescribed for ADHD ? Simply because the use of this drug in the long term is unknown and there are serious side effects such as stunted growth, heart problems, blood pressure and depression, just to name a few ! What then are the ADD and ADHD alternatives?

Let us look at the options available. First, unless parents come to grip with how things are run in the home, then there will be little chance of success because the behavioral problems there, if not resolved, will go on into adulthood and ADHD children will grow into ADHD adults and will constantly come up against obstacles in their work and relationships. The ADHD child may be aggressive and violent towards teachers, parents and siblings. How on earth do you deal with that? Many parents do not even bother to seek out alternative methods for ADD and ADHD.

The most important aspect here is that ADHD behavior therapy will work wonders if properly applied. There is no need for expensive counselling but a good behavior therapy course will cover the cost of one or two of those sessions. Looking after diet, exercise, school support are all part of a comprehensive type of treatment which can and does work, provided behavior therapy is at its core. This is one of the essential ADD and ADHD alternatives in my view.

William Pelham is well known in ADD and ADHD circles and his work together with Dr. Gregory Fabiano establishes that behavior therapy together with some medication is the most effective and permanent solution to ADHD. Dr. Fabiano won a White House Award for this work and does a lot of research with ADHD teens especially how they react when driving. Dr. Fabiano’s research supports ADHD behavioral therapy as one of the of the few valid ADD and ADHD alternatives.

We now know that the big pharmaceutical companies have launched massive campaigns on the media and even in social networking to assure parents that the drugs they make are perfectly safe. They even have followers on Facebook, some as many as tens of thousands, as they peddle their wares, even there. They have mounted a campaign against homeopathic medicine and have even paid for trials which will be manipulated by them to discredit homeopathy and will rarely mention alternative methods for ADD and ADHD.

The homeopathic remedies for ADHD contain ingredients like Arsen iod which is great for calming children during outbursts and temper tantrums. In addition, hyperactivity is reduced and also impulsivity so no more dashing across the road. Concentration is also improved. The great thing about this type of remedy is that they are non-addictive and there are no known side effects. The long term risks are zero and there have been no cases of heart conditions due to a homeopathic remedy because it quite simply restores the balance in the mind and the body of the patient. It may not get much space in the media but homeopathy is one of the best ADD and ADHD alternatives.

ADHD Medication Long Term Effects – What Every Parent Needs To Know

King Arthur | Articles from the Web | Saturday, June 6th, 2009

Why do you think Ritalin is called ‘kiddies’ coke’? Because it is drug based on a type of amphetamine which is known as methylphenidate. As an amphetamine that means it is a Schedule II controlled substance and is available only on prescription and its use is tightly controlled (in theory). Forgive me if I laugh as we now know that it is widely abused by teenagers and adults. ADHD medicine long term effects have been studiously ignored by the manufacturers. They do admit though this drug can lead to dependency although other studies hotly deny that ADHD children who have been on Ritalin and other drugs have no more probability of ending up as drug users as normal kids. This is just one in a long list of ADHD medication long term effects.

Whatever the truth, I, personally would never give my kids those kinds of drugs. I would look for alternative ADHD treatment or medication and I know that ADHD homeopathic remedies, for example, have none of the above risks. Nor do they have any side effects.

Let us take a closer look at Ritalin. Why do you think the FDA had to issue a warning about this drug and their cousins such as Cylert, Vyvanse and Adderall, to name just a few of these hot money making products? This warning was about hallucinations, violent aggressive behavior, psychotic events and suicidal thoughts. But these are some of the very symptoms of ADHD ! So, some people are prescribing a medicine which over time will produce the very symptoms we are trying to cure. And what about the ADHD medicine long term effects which they have not told us about?

What about heart problems? There are warnings on the boxes of medicine about possible cardiac events in children already predisposed to heart problems. We now know for example that drug users will combine this drug with other drugs such as ecstasy and this puts further strain on the heart. We also know that the number of children on Ritalin or other psychostimulants are 20% more likely to end up in ER or the doctor’s office with cardiac problems such as irregular heart beat and/ or racing heart. There are no conclusive studies about cardiac problems but this would seem to suggest that there could well be implications for heart health as one of the ADHD medication long term effects.

Other ADHD medication long term effects are anorexia and other eating disorders which have been linked to Ritalin, as much as 30%! There also seems to be a tendency towards OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) which was noted in the kids who were on these stimulants.

Time to take note and look for alternatives. Behavior modification combined with some form of medication such as a homeopathic cure seems to be the safest road to take. I know parents who were delighted with this choice and their children were able to sail through the ADHD challenge without ever having to worry about ADHD medication long term effects.

What Are The Best Alternative Methods For ADD and ADHD ?

King Arthur | Articles from the Web | Friday, June 5th, 2009

Recently a White House Award was given to Dr. Gregory Fabiano for his work on ADHD but it has received very little attention in the press. This may or may not have something to do with powerful lobbies connected to the big pharmaceutical companies who would not be too pleased to learn the results of his work. His research showed unequivocably that ADHD behavioral therapy together with some medication was one of the best alternative methods for ADD and ADHD. His work showed that unless behavior modification was applied then medication alone was not effective and the only lasting results could be had through ADHD behavior therapy.

Fabiano’s work also showed that once behavior modification was in place, medication could be reduced which meant that any harmful side effects or long term health risks could be eliminated. Not good news for the drug companies who insist that their psychostimulants are entirely safe and that any side effects are minimal. It is strange but true that behavioral therapy as one of the alternative methods for ADD and ADHD has received so little attention. It should not even be alternative, it should be mainstream. Sadly the drug companies have a hidden agenda and they will even pay for research on homeopathic remedies for ADHD to show that they are ineffective and even unsafe.

All sorts of alternative methods for ADD and ADHD have been tried and these have ranged from Chinese herbs, Bach flower remedies, acupuncture, yoga, meditation, and ECG biofeedback for hyperactivity.

Many parents now know that the side effects of psychostimulants are too risky and time consuming for them and they are looking for one of the easier alternative methods for ADD and ADHD. In my view, there is no need for psychostimulants (the drug companies cannot tell us how exactly they work on the child’s brain) as a homeopathic remedy for ADHD will do the job just as well, if not better. These homeopathic ingredients have shown that hyperactivity can be reduced, concentration improved and focused while the child will have fewer temper tantrums. If we couple that with a few sensible strategies from ADHD behavior therapy then that, in my view, is the one of the best alternative methods for ADD and ADHD now in existence.

Is ADHD Real Or A Medical Hoax ?

King Arthur | Articles from the Web | Thursday, June 4th, 2009

Is ADHD real? The war rages on with both sides vehemently arguing their case. The ADHD deniers claim that this is the medical hoax of the millennium and that it has been deliberately hyped up by the by the pharmaceutical companies to line their pockets and swell their bank accounts. In addition, they deniers claim that the psycho-stimulant drugs used are unnecessary and even harmful.

On the other side of the fence we have the medical establishment who claim that the condition exists and that it can be successfully treated or symptoms at least alleviated with their drugs. They say that the side effects are minimal and there are no long term harmful effects. There is no doubt at all in their minds that the question ‘is ADHD a legitimate disorder’ is a pointless one. That is the controversy in a nutshell.

Let us look first at the evidence, scientific and neurological, regarding the question ‘is ADHD real?’ The answer is that for the last fifty years, there has been an enormous amount of research done which gives a resounding yes to the question ‘is ADHD a legitimate disorder?’ The answer as to what causes ADHD lies in the roots of our brain chemistry. There are chemical neurotransmitters which are essential to us carrying out tasks, focusing and concentrating which are all controlled by these chemical messengers.

There is a strong genetic link. We now know that fathers who have had ADHD themselves have a 30% possibility of having a child with this mental disorder. That is quite a high percentage and work is ongoing to show that there is indeed a genetic link.

There is no definitive medical test which can exclude or confirm the diagnosis of ADHD and that has led to so many problems. As the diagnosis is largely based on questionnaires answered by parents and teachers, there is room for loose interpretation as the criteria have to match categories such as ‘often’ or ‘present on certain days’. That is all open to subjective interpretation which could be one of the reasons why ADHD is overdiagnosed , in my opinion. This is another reason why people continually ask ‘Is ADHD real?’

ADHD is so real that if it is left untreated , it can ruin many lives and often children carry it into adulthood because nobody bothered to have it checked out. Result ? Their lives are marred by difficulty in the workplace because they cannot stay focused on one task, they lack concentration, they may be hyperactive and their relationships at the personal and work level will suffer

Is ADHD real? The answer is a resounding yes and the effects of this condition affect the lives of millions of children and adults. As to the treatment available, the best option many parents have found is not to neglect ADHD behavioral therapy which will have a profound and lasting effect on how children control their behavior. In addition, there is a stormy debate about the use or overuse of psychostimulants and whether natural homeopathic remedies are the answer. Find out more by clicking on the link below.
