‘Is ADHD treatable?’ is one of the first questions parents ask when given the diagnosis for their child. The answer is that while ADHD symptoms can be managed and treated to a certain extent, there is actually no cure. Some children grow out of it while others continue into adulthood.

In asking ‘is ADHD treatable’, many parents do not realize that there is a strong chance that their children may also have co-morbid condition such as depression, anxiety or a conduct disorder. Estimates put this possibility at 50%.

One of the lies which persists about ‘is ADHD treatable’ is the assumption that the powerful mind altering drugs are the answer and the only answer. This is misleading to say the least. While the psychostimulants which are mostly amphetamines can and do often relieve symptoms of hyperactivity and inattention, they certainly do not cure this condition. They can be only one part of thejigsaw

To complicate matters, there are a lot of question marks about their safety too. So much so, that the FDA has had to put a black box warning on these medications. Concern has been raised by sudden deaths ( very few, actually), heart attacks and an increase in suicidal thoughts and depression. This was sufficient evidence to force Health Canada to ban Adderall for use with ADHD children.

It is strange but sadly true that other alternative ADHD remedies hardly get a look in. Let us take behavior modification, for example. A University of Buffalo study by William Pelham and Gregory Fabiano shows that this is the most effective treatment and can easily be combined with some medication. Yes, behavior modification is only considered as a later option when the question ‘can ADHD be treated’ is asked. It should be the very first one as no medication will resolve parenting issues, especially in the case of ADHD.

There is a rumor which still persists in many circles that ADHD is due to just bad parenting. This is completely false but it must be said that successful parenting through behavior modification is actually one of the ways to manage ADHD.

There are new interesting areas of study which are neither lies nor rumors. One of these is neurofeedback. The ADHD child has to play a type of computer game and his ability to use his concentration will determine whether he can play the game successfully or not. The child gets immediate feedback and can see when his brainwaves are actually helping him to play the game. This is a sort of brain training but results have shown that the levels of concentration improve and that other ADHD symptoms diminish.

Let us have a look at a few lies about ADHD first. ADHD is caused by bad or absent parents, too much Internet and TV, too much sugar and it has been invented by the drug companies to make lots of money. These four lies are still broadcast by so-called know-it-alls. Fortunately there are lots of intelligent people around who know something about ADHD treatments and will not be fobbed off with lies or glib answers from the drug companies.

Want to know a secret? The former editor of the New England Journal of Medicine stated openly that there are certain academic institutions and individuals who are in the pay of the drug companies to provide biased results of clinical trials. This is not just about ADHD treatments but applies across the board for most medicines.

Another lie is that sugar causes hyperactivity in ADHD children. The BBC exposed this on a video where it was shown that parents’ perceptions of the bad behavior was influenced by the fact that they knew that the children had been given too much sugar!.

Want to know another secret? It is actually true that too much sugar may cause swings in blood sugar levels and this can cause a few crashes. The easiest way to avoid it is to reduce carbohydrates at breakfast as they contain simple sugars. Give preference to proteins which can actually help to keep blood sugar levels steady throughout the day. A simple dietary trick can help to implement effective ADHD treatments whichever one you choose.

ADHD treatments using EEG

It is not really a secret but professors at the University of Hertfordshire in the UK have reported promising results in reduction of impulsiveness and over-excitability in ADHD kids after they used (EEG) neurofeedback. The kids play a fun educational computer game by wearing a special helmet. This picks up the brain waves and the children can only play the game when their concentration levels are at a certain level. They tried this for twelve weeks and played the game three times a week and then their progress was noted.

Why is an ADHD homeopathic remedy so poorly publicized among all the ADHD treatments? Because it is one of the best kept secrets in ADHD, because there are no powerful lobbies pushing it. It is enormously successful because it takes a holistic approach and also because it is using natural substances from plants and other sources. Secondly, there are no alarming side effects and no health risks such as cardiac problems or loss of appetite. Thirdly it is the most economical of all the effective ADHD treatments and last but not least, the preparations I recommend below are manufactured in an FDA approved facility. Why not check it out for yourself?

ADD & ADHD

This article is taken from Neways PrimeTime magazine No. 45. September – October 2002 and explains much about ADD & ADHD.

Tony Dickinson shares his views and experiences with these ever increasing disorders.

Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Attention Deficit Hyperkinetic Disorder (ADHD) are ever-increasing problems and seem to be systematic of so-called sophisticated societies. However, the terms are frequently used loosely without any clear-cut diagnosis. The difference is primarily one of terminology but the most common “catch all” clinical diagnosis nowadays is ADHD. So, I will try to differentiate the two conditions.

ADD is the term used for adult or a bright child who has a low attention span and fails to achieve his/her potential. All children tend to daydream on occasions but with these children the attention loss is very obvious and consistent. It significantly impairs their learning, literacy and numeracy and often results in them being labelled “thick” by their fellow pupils when in fact they may be very bright but struggling to overcome their handicap. Not surprisingly, their reaction is frustration-based and often gets them into scrapes. From then on, the child is often labelled by teachers as a troublemaker in spite of the growing awareness of the problem within the profession.

ADHD is the term used for the children and adults who suffer from ADD symptoms but who are, additionally, very hyperactive (not just boisterous like most children).

The core features are:

   1) Distractibility

   2) Impulsivity

   3) Hyperactivity

The diagnosis is only relevant if these behaviours are excessive, long-term and are pervasive. The problems must appear before the age of seven and last longer than six months. Furthermore, the behaviour must be seen to handicap at least two areas of the person’s life e.g. school, home, work or social.

So, rather than the usual stress-related behaviour, the hyperactivity frequently manifests as irrational behaviour of an almost psychotic nature. For instance, sufferers may lose all sense of danger to themselves or others and frequently they will undertake a course of action that they know will get them into trouble yet, compulsively, they will proceed irrespective of the consequences. For example, one of my patient’s children who suffered from ADHD set his younger sister’s bedroom on fire after she accidentally stood on one of his toys and broke it! Fortunately, the fire was spotted quickly or the consequences could have been tragic.

It appears that ADD/ADHD affects approximately 4% to 6% of children to a greater or lesser degree. These children’s lives are blighted, fraught with frustration and, as a result, the lives of their siblings and parents can be nightmarish. Onlookers are often judgemental, as they perceive the child to be ill mannered and parents to be lacking control. Whereas, in reality, the child is virtually uncontrollable and this is not the result of poor parenting. Obviously, the problem involves the family, friends and school.

Research using scanners has shown that the brains of those with ADHD have areas of low glucose uptake, suggesting that these areas are less active. Also, there is a familial link that may ultimately point to a genetic basis for the condition.

The orthodox medical approach is to prescribe stimulants that paradoxically help the hyperactivity. This would appear to be due to the stimulating of the under-active parts of the brain but long-term use of the stimulants is controversial with children and, whilst in some cases it may be the only solution, in my opinion it should be a last resort or temporary holding approach whilst other courses of action are identified.

Behavioural therapy is often a great value and as many of ADHD sufferers are cross lateral (e.g. right eyed, left-handed, right footed) or failed to crawl and, therefore, have underdeveloped and uninhibited reflexes, specialist reprogramming can be very effective. This is achieved, after extensive consultation to isolate the areas of the brain that are involved and the formulation of specific home exercises to rectify the neurological deficits.

Many sufferers also have eye function abnormalities and some ophthalmologists dispense special glasses that can greatly help. This, like the cross laterality correction, may be due to reduced overload on the brain. Whatever the reason, the results are beneficial in many cases.

My use of Neways’ products for ADHD includes:

Maximol

Scientific studies have shown that an amino acid (a protein) called Tyrosine may be helpful in treating ADHD. Tyrosine is used by the body to synthesise dopamine and norepinephrine, the two neurotransmitters believed to be deficient in ADHD. Maximol contains tyrosine, so in addition to providing good supplementary nutrition, it may also increase the amount of dopamine and norepinephrine available to the brain. These neurotransmitters affect the front lobes of the brain that control feelings and task focusing. However Maximol has an even greater role to play because iron, vitamins C, vitamins B3 and folic acid and necessary for the synthesis of these chemical messengers (often referred to as “feel good” chemicals) and these are all present.

(Important: Maximol no longer contains Tyrosine, but Maximol has been improved since 2002 and my granddaughter still finds the same benefits from Maximol as children did back in 2002. Within two weeks of my daughter starting her on Maximol she won the head teachers’ award for the best child of the week. Previously she had never won the form teachers’ prize. I asked her what she had won it for and she told me it was because she had changed her attitude in class).

Ingenious

Research in Italy showed that patients with chronic senile dementia showed improvement representing backtracking of six years when put on phosphatidylserine. Where do we find this substance? – in Ingenious. However, Ingenious has other ingredients that are helpful with ADHD. E.g. centella Asiatica, a plant that improves peripheral circulation (remember the areas of poor circulation in the brain?) and also has the ability to promote mental calm; calcium pantothenate (vitamin B5), which is necessary to produce acetylcholine and to convert fat and sugar into energy; and gingko biloba to increase peripheral circulation and bacopa monniera, an Indian Ayurvedic herb thought to have a direct effect in improving brain functions and increasing concentration and memory. In other words, it is packed with ingredients aimed at helping the brain to function to its potential.

Omega 3 EPA

A group of fatty acids derived from fish oils that support the body’s maintenance of blood lipids. They are essential for the healthy cell membrane formation and optimum circulation. In addition, vitamin E has been added because of its antioxidant properties.

EFA Recovery Plus

EFA Recovery Plus combines a group of essential fatty acids. They are essential because the body needs them and cannot produce them on its own. The modern tendency to include children in low-fat diets may be one of the reasons for the increase in ADHD. There is no doubt that saturated fats can create health problems but likewise, absence of unsaturated fats also puts us at risk. The unsaturated fats are present in salmon, tuna, herring, avocados, some nuts and beans. These fats are needed to carry fat-soluble vitamins e.g. vitamins A, D, E and K through the bloodstream and are crucial for foetal brain development. Today’s typical diet frequently does not include sufficient of this group of fats and EFA recovery plus is formulated to deal with this deficiency. Recent research into dyslexia has shown that EFA supplementation can dramatically reduce problems.

The key ingredients are:

1) Alpha-lipoic acid essential for muscle energy.

2) Linoleic acid important for circulation, healthy vision, brain and nerve cells.

3) Alpha linolenic acid is converted into EPA and DHA. DHA is a major component of human brain tissue.

4) Gamma-linolenic acid is necessary for the synthesis of prostaglandins essential for circulatory health.

5) EPA and DHA are two polyunsaturated fatty acids that support healthy circulation and nerve transmission.

There are two ways of dealing with a medical problem: a) treat the symptoms; b) treat the cause. The approach using Neways’ products would be to look at the underlying possible nutritional causes and, using the highest quality supplements, give the body what it needs to function properly. In other words, even if there is a genetic defect discovered, the problem can be addressed by reducing brain overload to a level whereby functioning is restored. Common sense dictates that junk foods, lurid colourings and potentially toxic personal care products should be eliminated as these can only add to the body’s toxic overload.

If the overload is shed, the brain will function nearer to optimum. The child will behave normally and the family and school will benefit. This is because the condition does not affect the child only, but can have a wide reaching impact on the community. Perhaps the most beneficial aspect of this approach is that the child’s health overall will be improved.

Dear Editor,

I thought I would write to let you know how pleased I have been with your products. In February I was introduced to Neways by my brother and his wife.

I started taking Maximol as I had always taken various vitamins and this was a much better way of getting all the vitamins and minerals that I needed.

I had also been struggling to lose weight and I have found with dieting and taking Maximol I have now lost most of the extra weight, which I had gradually gained over the last few years. Since February I have managed to lose a stone. I also heard that Maximol would help hyperactive children.

I had always felt that my five-year-old son, Russell was hyperactive. He was really bad tempered, naughty and was not really achieving well at school.

I decided I would try him with Maximol. Over a few weeks he seemed to change, his behaviour improved and he became so very loving. I feel I have a new child and wished I had heard of Maximol earlier in his life.

When I visited his school to see how he was progressing, the teacher was really pleased, saying how well he was doing and that he was nearly ready to go into the mainstream class, as he had been going with a small group of children who needed extra help.

The following term at school he moved up to year two and when I visited his new teacher she really surprised me telling me that Russell was in the highest achievers group, I was so proud, but also could not believe that over seven months he had gone from having extra help with his work to being so bright.

I feel certain it is Maximol that has done this for him, and would like to thank Neways, and Paul and Elaine for introducing me to this product.

Dear Editor,

After reading a testimonial in a previous PrimeTime, we decided to start our son Ben on Ingenious and Maximol as he was having serious behavioural problems at school and home, mainly because he was hyperactive. As Ben is only eight we decided to consult the products Department at Neways regarding the dosage. They advised me that he should have one Ingenious tablet and one capful of Maximol daily.

Within weeks we noticed that he was a lot calmer and we saw improvements in his concentration and also the way in which he controlled his moods.

After almost three months on this treatment Ben is improving at school and is a delightful child at home. He still can have a bad day, but the good days outweigh the bad ones.

One happy little boy

Dear Maggie,

We are writing to thank you for introducing us to Neways (through Ann Adam, from Dundee, our sponsor).

Our son Max is aged 16 months and has suffered from severe eczema since he was a few weeks all. As we were not prepared to follow our doctor’s advice (to bandage him from head to toe in wraps covered with cortisone and other steroid creams) we began looking for safe alternatives.

Unfortunately the herbal creams and potions made for him didn’t help at all. Next we tried a homeopath. Poor Max had to endure many different remedies. His reaction to some of these were extremely bad and his condition became much worse. With other remedies there was an improvement but unfortunately this couldn’t be maintained for any length of time. We became resigned to the fact that the process of finding a suitable remedy for Max was going to be long and distressing.

Then our friend, Ann Adam received a tape from you. She began using Neways products and informed us about them. Without hesitation, we knew we had to try them for Max. After listening to some tapes we couldn’t wait to get started. It all made so much sense. Initially we gave Max the baby’s dose of one small teaspoon of Maximol Solutions and one crushed VMM daily. The results have been amazing. His skin is virtually free from eczema and he’s had no bad reactions at all. Now he receives one small teaspoon of Maximol each day and his skin remains perfect. We tried three days without giving him Maximol and the eczema reappeared.

Our whole family now use the products and we wouldn’t consider using any other toothpaste, etc. We take Maximol and Revenol and our two older children take ‘Orachel for Kids’.

Colin has a hairdressing business and is very impressed with the hair care range (as are many of his customers). He is constantly receiving enquiries about the company and now has a supply of tapes and information in the salon for the many interested clients.

Thank you again Maggie. At the moment we feel the need to tell everyone how wonderful these products are already many of our friends and relations are interested.

Anne and Colin Brunton

P.S. We spent over £1,000 to try and cure Max and travelled hundreds of miles to visit many alternative practitioners. You can see from the pictures what a difference the Neways products have made. The ‘before’ picture doesn’t show Max at his worst. The eczema covered his whole body and his skin was so bad that I couldn’t bring myself to take his photo.

Taken from Neways Primetime magazine No. 59. March – April 2005.

Eczema, Psoriasis and Asthma

My skin, from a very early age, as always suffered from severe dryness and eczema, but after an increasingly stressful period in my life had developed into psoriasis and was so bad that over and 18 month period I was referred to three different dermatologists, all of whom told me that ‘there was very little they could do’ and yet, as I write this testimonial today, there is not a single patch of psoriasis anywhere on my body, and my skin is in the best condition of my life!

However, this is not the result of using the hydrocortisone cream or petrol-based lubricant given to me by the doctors, no. After researching what these prescribed products really do to your skin I took the decision to stop using them.

I found out that the cream the doctor gave me actually thins your skin and stops it from producing melatonin and therefore stops it from tanning (I discovered this after returning from a sunny vacation in Spain with various and unsightly white patches where the cream and been rubbed into my skin). I also learnt that whilst the petrol-based lubricant puts a film over my skin trapping in the moisture, it also stops the skin from breathing too…and as the skin is the largest organ of the body and brings in oxygen to the body just like the lungs this is not a good thing, not to mention that petrol helps to encourage cancer cells – why didn’t the doctors tell me about these little facts?

Luckily for me, my father introduced me to some very unique and, most importantly, safe toxin-free products from the worlds largest, privately owned manufacturer, a company called Neways. They suggested I purchase one of their ‘Convert Your Bathroom’ packs and simply swapped over to their liquid laundry detergent. They also strongly recommended I supplement my diet with an easily absorbable mineral and vitamin liquid called Maximol Solutions together with their extremely powerful multi-oxidant called Cascading Revenol. They were more expensive than the prescription charges I had paid for from the doctor, but I felt much more reassured by the ‘Seal of Safety’ their products had been granted from the Cancer Prevention Coalition.

After just a couple of weeks my skin started to improve and by the end of six weeks, incredibly, my skin was 90% better.

Miraculously, even though I was diagnosed with asthma, and nearly died from an asthma attack aged seven, and I’ve been hospitalised from it on several occasions since, after about six months of using Neways’ products I noticed one day that I had not used my inhalers. That was six years ago and today I am not only completely free of eczema and psoriasis but asthma too!

Thank you Neways… if only all sufferers of these dreadful diseases new about your products.

I have been a regular sufferer of earaches for a long time and they can often be quite painful.

But since I discovered that Eliminator Mouthwash is great for almost anything, I decided to try and use it for my earache! I use one spray directly into the ear and put some cotton wool in to keep it warm. I must say that it worked brilliantly and the next day… no earache!

Now I spray the Eliminator Mouthwash into both ears has a preventative measure, especially after swimming and it has worked a treat… haven’t had an earache in some time now. Brilliant.

I would highly recommend this to use especially in children’s ears with earache has we all know that ear drops from the pharmacy are full of harmful chemicals.

I found that the best way to see if natural remedies worked better than man-made pills was just to 1) sign up (It’s FREE to sign up) using the link below. Then purchase a bottle of Maximol and a container of Revenol and just take the recommended dose for 3 months.

Many people, me included realised in the first month that our aches and pains were almost gone. The sheer joy that brings, to get relief after suffering aching joints for more than 15 years cannot be put into words. As I say to people ‘happy’ is too small a word.

Or 2) sign up for FREE, then send me an email and I can put you in touch with a Doctor who will have a chat and see if you need any of the, approximately 250 other products that the company produces to help people overcome health problems.

The company now sells over $750,000,000 (three quarters of a $billion) annually. If they didn’t work, do you think we would buy from them again?

The best sellers are Maximol and Revenol, these two together account for about 75% of sales because they help your body get in shape in order to repel many modern day ailments.

Click on the link below sign up. It does not cost anything, then just explore the Neways site. Any problem, email me on ‘royneale50@hotmail.com’ put Neways in the subject line and I will get back to you as soon as I am able too.

The Latest Way to Find the Owner of Any Cell Phone

Why would you want to find the owner of any cell phone?

There are many reasons why more and more people are looking to find the person behind the number.

1. It’s annoying not to now know who is calling you

2. It’s creepy not to know, especially when unknown numbers are calling your kids

3. You might have missed an important call

4. Etc. there are as many reasons are there are people

The traditional way of finding the owner of any cell phone

1. Look up the number in a reverse phone number directory or a phone book.

That is a time consuming process, not to mention that that method only works on land-lines and business number. This DOES NOT work on cell phones.

2. Cell phone numbers are not available that way. So if you receive a call from a cell phone, it will be harder to find out who actually called, but it’s not impossible

3. Calling your cell phone provider and ask them for the information on the number that called.

Not likely that will work… Some providers might give that information to you but only if you pay a fee to them.

The latest way to find the owner of any cell phone

1. Signing up for a Phone Cell Number Lookup service, www.phonecellnumberlookup.com. It is very easy and painless to do and the information you are given though that kind of service is quite amazing. Try looking up your own cell phone number … it’s an eye opener of the level of detailed information about you that is available to anyone with access to a phone cell number lookup service.

2. This is how you do it:

a. Contact one of those companies and go to their website.

b. On the first page you will typically see a search box, and not much more.

c. Type in the phone number in question that you are interested in.

d. In a few seconds you will see a whole lot of information about that number become visible. This initial information is typically limited, but it will give you an inclination of what that specific service is capable of delivering to you

e. At that time you will be give the following options.

i. Pay a fee ($10-$15) for a one time detailed lookup. This will give you all the information you need

ii. Pay a flat fee for unlimited number of detailed searches ($35-$40). This way you will be able to lookup as many number, whenever you like

iii. Don’t pay anything at all and be satisfied with the information you received for free.

I personally do not answer phone calls from numbers I’m not familiar with.

But I check those number everyday when I get home through my phone cell number lookup service.

I also, always, check on who has called my kids. Especially if those calls are out of state and there is, in my mind, no reason why my kids should be receiving calls from out of state.

I hope this help and that you now understand what the latest way to find the owner of any cell phone is.

If you have an alphabet kid, he or she may have been labeled with ADD or ADHD, OCD, Aspergers, NLD (non verbal learning disorder) or a host of the so-called co-morbid disorders which pediatricians are so fond of using. But is there a difference between ADD vs ADHD? The short answer is no. So, thankfully, that is one less acronym we have to deal with. But the ADD vs ADHD confusion, how did this come about?

Attention deficit disorder (ADD) was first used about thirty years ago. Because it was observed that many children fidget constantly and are hyperactive while adults multi task, it was felt that there was something missing in the definition. That was in 1994 and the definition was then changed to ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) as more and more had been discovered about ADHD/ADD differences.

It was about the same period that the DSM -IV (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) which is the handbook recommended by most medical bodies such as the American Psychiatric Association was changed to reflect this and to put an end to the ADD vs ADHD confusion.

This handbook is now used by most practitioners in the field. ADHD is now the umbrella term and is divided into three types which perhaps more accurately describe this mental condition.

The first type is known as ADHD – primarily inattentive subtype where inattention, distraction, problems in finishing tasks and short attention span are the predominant symptoms. The second type is known as ADHD Hyperactive /Impulsive where constant motion, hyperactivity and impulsive behavior dominate. The third type is the ADHD Combined subtype where both the symptoms of the first two subtypes are present.

The advantage of this subdivision is that there is no longer any need for the definition ADD as it seems it has now been pensioned off, so in a way there is less confusion with just having ADHD sorted into three subtypes. The only problem is however that the umbrella term has ‘hyperactivity’ in it to describe the first subtype where no hyperactivity is actually present so in that sense, it is a misnomer. Everyone is waiting to see if the new edition of DSM (Edition V) will address this issue or not and finally bury the ADD vs ADHD debate!

Well, although the ADD vs ADHD confusion has been sorted out, the problem of treatment for ADHD has not and there is now so much controversy surrounding ADHD medications that it is a minefield for any parent entering it. I have one simple rule and that is to look at all the options carefully.

But the drug companies are actually campaigning actively to make sure that the ADHD homeopathic lobby is discredited. That is unfair and that is why I urge all parents to look at ADHD homeopathic remedies with an open mind. The great advantage is that there are no side effects and no health risks at all. Why not click through to get more information on this inexpensive and effective option.

Are there herbs that can stimulate the brain and could they be used in herbal ADHD treatment? That is a question many parents ask as they seek an alternative to powerful mind altering drugs such as Ritalin and Vyvanse which are nothing more than amphetamines. So, if you are determined NOT to serve Ritalin for breakfast, read on because I want to outline some of the best plant extracts used in herbal ADHD treatment.

Israeli Research
In a very interesting research study led by Professor Miri Katz, at Sheba Hospital in Israel, it was shown that a herbal treatment for ADHD was very effective in reducing ADHD symptoms. There were 120 children in the study aged between 7 and 12 and they took the herbal formula for a period of four months. The control group were given a placebo for the same period. It was found that those children who had taken the herbal formula showed significant and noteworthy improvement in their concentration spans. In addition, cases of disruptive behavior such as fidgeting and restlessness were much reduced.

Examples of herbal treatment for ADHD
The exact herbal mix used in that trial have not been revealed but I want to list here some of the herbs that have been used with very good results in other ADHD treatment plans. Rosemary is a great stimulant for the memory and it is well known that Greek students use this when studying for their exams. Ginseng is famous for the fact that it stimulates the cerebral cortex which in turn will increase the attention span and aid concentration. Bacopa is well known for helping with concentration. Gingko biloba can stimulate circulation in the brain and can help with memory and attention problems.

What is the difference between herbal and homeopathic treatments?
Many parents are puzzled as to the difference between herbal ADHD treatment and homeopathic treatment. Is there a difference? There are several distinctions to be made here. Herbal remedies come only from botanical sources whereas homeopathic remedies use a mix of extracts from animal, mineral or botanical origins. Homeopathy uses micro dosages while herbal remedies will use greater quantities of the extracts. In addition homeopathic medicine s designed to stimulate the body’s immune system to heal itself and there is much emphasis on the whole person rather than the symptoms of any particular disease or condition.

Why homeopathic remedies are the preferred option
The most important distinction to be made is that of controls and regulation. Herbal and nutritional supplements are not controlled at all by the FDA whereas homeopathy is. That is one very good reason why I prefer to use homeopathic treatments, especially if I know that the company is a FDA registered facility and if it has qualified homeopaths working for them. The homeopathic ingredients such as Hyoscamus, Tuberculinum can be useful in treating hyperactivity, restlessness, irritability and aggressive behaviours. Why not click on the link below which explains in more details why these remedies are safer and more effective than herbal ADHD treatment.

What are the new ADHD treatments, if any? Most parents seem resigned to the fact that psychostimulants combined with some behavioral therapy seems to be the best solution. But this is somewhat clouded by the bad press that the ADHD meds are getting.

Class action lawsuits and financial conflicts of interest

Class action suits have been won against some drug companies. Even more alarming is the fact that there is a conflict of interest in that the drug companies are far too closely involved in the pharmaceutical research and the clinical trials of these medications. This was stated very clearly, quite recently, by a former editor of The New England Journal of Medicine, Marcia Angell. She now teaches medical ethics at the Harvard School of Medicine

Neurofeedback / EEG (electroencephalogram)/Biofeedback

One of the new treatments for ADHD being tried is EEG or biofeedback. How does this work and what are the results? First, electrodes are placed on the skin around the forehead area. The biofeedback training by the therapist present will help the ADHD child through a series of mental activities to maintain the smile on the smiley icon or some similar visual. The actual feedback from the brain shows which brainwaves are being used to keep the smile on the icon. In this way, the brain is being trained to improve concentration, attention and reduce hyperactivity and impulsivity.

Why is neurofeedback not used more in ADHD treatment?

One recent trial published in the Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry did actually show that there was a 25% reduction in the ADHD symptoms of the children given this EEG treatment. But the main problem seems to be that there have not been enough trials done to show conclusively that this treatment may actually be adopted as a newer ADHD treatment. Up to now the samples have been too small and also the testers were not blinded as to the status of the children being tested and there was also a lack of appropriate control groups.

Green time activities for ADHD

One of the new ADHD treatments is where children were taken for a 20 minute walk in the open air surrounded by greenery. These children actually showed higher levels of concentration compared to when they were taken for a walk downtown in the shopping malls. This study was done by the University of Illinois but more studies will have to be done and on a larger scale before this is adopted as a newer ADHD treatment. However it makes sense for children to be given more green time for a wide range of healthy reasons.

ADHD behavior therapy and ADHD homeopathic remedies

As I remarked at the beginning of the article, the mainstay of new ADHD treatments and old ones, seems to be a combination of behavior therapy with some medication.

But which medication? As the psychostimulants and the companies that produce them are the subject of more and more controversy, it seems wise to look at alternatives such as ADHD homeopathic remedies. Why not find out what these involve. There are no risks and no side effects either coupled with the fact that they are much cheaper. Why not discover more by clicking on the link below.

Parents seek alternatives
That is why American parents are turning to herbal remedies for ADHD because they are now beginning to realize that they do actually work and can be equally effective in calming children and helping them with their hyperactivity and inattention which are the most frequent and disturbing symptoms.

What do FDA black box warnings mean?
Considering that there are no black box warnings on any herbal ADHD remedy means that parents can rest assured that the long term health risks are practically nil. There will be no effects on appetite, sleeping habits and children will be able to cope better. Compare that with the black box warnings on ADHD meds (the maximum warning the FDA issues) where there are risks for children with heart conditions, depression and loss of appetite.

Some of the proven herbal remedies for ADHD
As we know there are some risks from free radical damage to any of our body cells so any herbal remedy which will reduce that can be invaluable. The herb bacopa monniera (Brahmi) does just that and in addition, is great for helping children in the learning process as it is a brain stimulant. This will help ADHD children to concentrate better.

Another proven herbal ADHD remedy is Cammomile which is used to lessen nervous tension and relieve frustration and restore calm. It is also used as a tranquillizer and can help people who are tense and nervous to get off to sleep.

Some of the other proven herbal remedies for ADHD are Skullcap, Valerian, Ginkgo Biloba, Avena (green oats). These can all help to reduce restlessness, hyperactivity while helping to increase their concentration and inattentiveness.

Some FAQs on herbal remedies for ADHD
Another frequently asked question is about doubts as to the validity and track record of these remedies. They have actually been around for centuries and have formed the basis of ancient and modern medicine. It is comforting to know that as the majority of the world’s population (about 80%) has to survive on $2 a day, they have no alternative but to use herbal medicine as that is most readily available. This was reported recently by officials at the World Health Organisation. Complementary medicine is gaining in popularity especially in Europe and the UK.

Why not find out more about herbal remedies for ADHD and also homeopathic remedies from one of the most reputable companies in the USA. Their manufacturing processes are carried out in a FDA approved facility and qualified homeopaths and naturopaths work for them.

The bible for ADHD testing is called the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders). The American Academy of Pediatrics advises practitioners to follow the guidelines set out in this manual for all pediatricians, psychologists and psychiatrists who may have to carry out ADHD tests.

This sounds reassuring at first glance but the fact that there is no clinical test for ADHD and that this manual relies heavily on the use of questionnaires raises some doubts. At this point we have to face up to the disturbing truth that very often ADHD diagnosis is inaccurate or simply over diagnosed.

ADHD testing starts with an initial physical and clinical examination to eliminate all the other possible conditions whose symptoms very often mimic those of ADHD. These consist of allergies, learning difficulties which have nothing to do with ADHD, allergies, food intolerances, hearing difficulties and even problems with eyesight.

Then there is a neurological examination and then the questionnaires are filled out. Parents are asked about how often the symptoms of ADHD are noticed and usually asked for how long they have been present. These symptoms need to be present in all the settings, home, school and at play. Usually a period of six months or more is considered to be the minimum time and children under the age of four or five are not eligible for ADHD testing. In spite of that children of three years of age are diagnosed with ADHD and are put on psychostimulants!

Then this is followed by other screening tests, questionnaires for the child’s teacher, the TOVA (Test of Variables of Attention). Once all this information is gathered, the pediatrician or psychiatrist will refer to the DSM mentioned above and measure all the information according to the criteria set out there. Now these criteria are based on how normal children behave. All this seems relatively straightforward except that there is too much subjectivity in the whole process.

As we are looking for a chemical imbalance in the child’s developing brain, it is not so easy to seek a black and white answer.

Once the ADHD testing is positive, parents have to look at the various options for treatment. They can choose between psychostimulants and behavior therapy or a combination of both. The whole area of treatment with mind altering drugs (with risks of addiction, side effects such as insomnia and loss of appetite) is a very dubious one and many parents are questioning this, much to the chagrin of the drug companies.

If you are trying to come to terms with a positive result from ADHD tests, why not consider an ADHD homeopathic remedy. There are no side effects and no health risks and the whole treatment is much cheaper. If you think this is Utopia, why not click on the link below and find out that this is a practical, no nonsense solution.
